- Isabella Eliza (Bella) Southwell was born on 8 May 1886 at 'Rosevale' near Sutton (home of her grandparents). Daughter of George Edward and Ann Southwell. Spent early life at 'Coolamon'. In 1915 Bella took a position as hostess at Yarralumla until 1924. In 1925 she was appointed as Manageress at the Hotel Canberra when it opened. She also worked at the Hotel Kurrajong, Hotel Ainslie and Hotel Acton for short periods and became manageress of the Hotel Kurrajong until her death in 1946.
