- Len Turner was living with Richard Shumack in Cunningar when Parliament House was opened in 1927 and he wanted to commemorate the event because Shumack's parents, Dick and Margaret of Tolldale, were invited, as pioneers to attend the opening. Richard drove Len over to Canberra later to view the new parliament so he could paint a souvenir picture to mark the occasion.
