- Sir John Henry MacFarland (1851-1935), educationist and churchman, was Master of Ormond College, Vice-chancellor and Chancellor of Melbourne University for 25 years and a prominent Presbyterian layman. He was chancellor of the University of Melbourne when the Canberra University College was established in 1930 as an affiliate.
